Founded in 1987 with just six rescued giant pandas, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has grown into the world’s preeminent facility for ex-situ panda conservation. Located roughly 10 kilometers north of downtown Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China, the facility spans over 3 square kilometers of lush bamboo forests and natural hillsides designed to mirror the species’ high-altitude native habitat.
